brickcon 2014

We spent this past weekend as a vendor at the amazing BrickCon 2014 Lego Exhibition here in Seattle. The level of talent that was at this event was incredible!! BrickCon exhibits models created by adult LEGO® hobbyists (otherwise known as the AFOL – Adult Fans Of Lego – community) from around the nation and the world! I was blown away by so many cool designs and creations and all the fans that came through the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall. We had such great feedback and comments from people stopping by our booth to check out Swoop Bags! Since we don’t always hear from our customers since they make their transactions online, it was so rewarding to meet and talk with them in person and hear their stories and to be able to tell our Swoop Bag story.

We got lucky enough to have our booth set up next to Miss Courageous who makes super, cool, LEGO jewelry such as rings, necklaces, money clips, hair pins other funky Lego-inspired designs. Another vendor who also specializes in Lego designed jewelry is Cutebricks. Check out her groovy display and her online Etsy shop, too!

Moving down vendor row… there was the super, talented Mariann Asanuma from Building Secrets who was previously a master builder at LEGOLAND. Her motto: “From big to small I can build it all.” And that is true! Her booth was packed with Lego jewelrykey chains, bracelets and more.

We also met Joe Meno, Editor in Chief of Brick Journal – “A magazine for Lego® enthusiasts of all ages!” You can purchase a tangible hard-copy subscription to this magazine or read about recent articles online. I am thinking this would be a good gift idea for my kid’s friends or anyone who wants to know the latest and greatest about what is happening in the world of Lego®.

Another fun vendor was Brickshirts – check out their COOL designs!

We thank all the MANY people at BrickCon for making this event possible and to be able to be a vendor and share our Lego-inspired products with the Lego community. And of course, none of this would be possible without LEGO®! Thank you! (More vendors and sponsors listed here.)

Swoop on Houzz

houzzWe have partnered with Houzz and were very excited to see our Orange Crush Swoop Bag + True Blue Mini bag featured in their story:
Instant Storage for the Kids’ Stuff:

“Show us a kid and we’ll show you an 18-wheeler full of toys. Seriously, how do kids accumulate more stuff than a dryer filter? Oh, right: We parents and grandparents spoil them rotten. And that’s how it should be. But having our child’s net worth in toys is the least of our worries. We’re more concerned with how to keep all the action figures, building blocks and stuffed animals neat and organized — and keep them from jabbing our bare feet as we shuffle through the house.”

In this photo you can find products from us, Swoop Bags (thank you Houzz!) as well as these companies that can help get you and your kids’ room organized and their toys in just the right places: Sprout-KidsMimish Designs, Mod Mom Furniture, OOTS!, Way Basics, P’kolino and more.

Cheers to 2014!

Creating a balanced and uncluttered home.

uncluttered homePhoto credit: We “pinned” this photo from Pinterest months ago and when I frequently see it, it always brings a sense of calm and order and realization that I need to get to organizing again.

Honestly, do you feel loaded down by all the stuff you own? Stressed out when you are tripping over toys and opening up that closet that is the dumping zone for things you don’t want to deal with? As my husband always says “Stuff owns you – you don’t own stuff!” Over the years, I have learned to simplify my life and home and it feels so liberating. Getting rid of “that shirt that I haven’t worn in 5 years, but might someday?” feels so freeing. Do you really need that extra set of dishes in the cupboard or sheets in the closet? I try and purge every possible thing in my home that really doesn’t have a purpose, isn’t being used or is taking up space. I believe in quality over quantity and having a few really nice pieces – items in your home that you treasure and have meaning to you. I challenge you to go through each room (start with your bedroom) and purge! Scaling down and scaling back, creating a home and a lifestyle that brings you happiness not stress. I truly believe in “less is more.”

Check out these 10-minute tidy-up cards that you can do each day or over weeks or months. I think this would be a great way for kids to help out around the house as well. You can read more about these cards by Time to Organize right here.

The blog The Art of Simple was started by Tsh Oxenreider who is also the author of One Bite at a Time which is “An e-book that brings you 52 ideas for simplifying your life. You can do them in any order, at your own pace, and customize them to fit your needs.”
